Feast of Santa Maria di Tratalias

📍 Tratalias Medieval Village

An ancient pilgrimage where the statue of the Virgin Mary is carried on a decorated ox cart from Iglesias to the medieval cathedral of Tratalias near Carbonia. The procession is accompanied by traditional musicians and poets in regional costumes.

💡 Visitor Tip: The medieval village of Tratalias hosts food stalls and crafts markets during the event. Parking is free in the fields surrounding the village, and a plate of local pasta costs €6.00 (~$6.54).

Notti a Monte Sirai

📍 Rupestrian Amphitheater, Monte Sirai

A performing arts festival hosted in the volcanic stone amphitheater at the ruins. Features acoustic concerts, independent theater, and wine tastings under the starry sky. It is a gorgeous performance which the volcanic plateau is what it is performed on.

💡 Visitor Tip: The ticket cost is €10.00 (~$10.90) and includes a free daytime pass to the archaeological site. Dress comfortably as the amphitheater seats are made of volcanic stone.

Carbonia Film Festival

📍 Carbonia Pavillons & Theaters

An international film and documentary festival focusing on themes of labor, migration, and social change. The event hosts screenings, panels, and photographic exhibtions in various pavilions across the city.

💡 Visitor Tip: Individual film tickets cost €4.00 (~$4.36), and a full festival pass is €15.00 (~$16.35). Subtitled films are widely available for international visitors.
Early September

Sagra del Pane e del Formaggio

📍 Piazza Roma, Carbonia

Celebrating Sulcis pastoral traditions with live baking demonstrations of traditional breads (like pane carasau and coccoi) and fresh sheep pecorino cheese making. Lots of food tastings are available to visitors.

💡 Visitor Tip: The demonstrations begin at 17:30. A tasting ticket containing three cheeses, local bread, and a glass of Carignano wine costs €8.00 (~$8.72).

Sardinian Sagre & Folklore

A sagra is a traditional food festival celebrating local agricultural products, seafood, or wine. These festivals are the heart of Sardinian village life. Visitors are treated to long tables set up in the central squares, where local volunteers serve hand-prepared regional delicacies at very affordable rates.

Solstice Nights

Astronomical alignment openings occur annually around June 20-21. These night openings feature special stargazing workshops and lectures led by local experts in prehistory.
